Led by Owner and Founder, Michael Harrell, and headquartered in Wasilla, Alaska we are in business to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Alaska and MAPS, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, two non-profit organizations whose mission coalign with our social purpose. We achieve this by donating over half of our proceed each year from our product sales. Gut Instincts Alaska is also dedicated to helping educate the public on the benefits of incorporating fermented foods in their daily eating habits, to providing the public a basic understanding of fermented foods and how it plays a role in mental health, and to teaching the public about how easy it can be to start fermenting foods on their own.
At Gut Instincts Alaska we make the best handcrafted artisanal thick & chunky style salsa with fermented peppers from scratch. We sell our salsas locally with a purpose intended to showcase how, when incorporating fermented ingredients into the food we consume, it enhances the flavor and makes it incredibly delicious to eat. With such a unique flavor profile that can't simply be replicated by chemical additives or the addition of vinegar and spices our salsa is unrivaled in comparison with other salsas offered in Alaska. We wholeheartedly intend to heavily promote that we use fermented ingredients in our products knowing the benifits of fermentation. Our hope is that after trying our salsas we spark a new interest in all of our customers curious to learn more more about fermentation and how it can enhance the foods we eat in so many ways.

I started Gut Instincts in 2018 in memory of my sister, Corey, who tragically died from suicide in 2015. This great loss left me with the desire to find a way to support mental health research and suicide prevention. I named my company Gut Instincts after I learned how the Gut-Brain Axis connects to mental and physical health. Maintaining
I started Gut Instincts in 2018 in memory of my sister, Corey, who tragically died from suicide in 2015. This great loss left me with the desire to find a way to support mental health research and suicide prevention. I named my company Gut Instincts after I learned how the Gut-Brain Axis connects to mental and physical health. Maintaining a healthy microbiota (the good bacteria that lives in your gut) helps combat many of the devastating human emotions that lead to depression and thoughts of suicide. Gut Instincts salsa is made with fermented peppers for this very reason.
My unique Tex-mex inspired salsas are made with fermented peppers and a perfected blend of Spanish, Mexican, and Tejano cuisine. This combination of ingredients delivers a flavor profile that far surpasses traditional salsas. My hope is that the product helps fund research to stop suicide and sheds light on how delicious fermented foods can be.
